One of the most celebrated choral masterworks of all time, Mendelssohn's Elijah.
Felix Mendelssohn dramatically portrays Elijah’s struggles against ungodly forces. Witness how faithfully God worked through the prophet’s life in epic struggles with the followers of Baal, the miracle of raising a widow’s son from the dead, and his ascension to heaven in a chariot of fire.
Mendelssohn was initially inspired to write his monumental work, "Elijah," after reading a single passage of scripture:
"And behold, the Lord passed by."
The entire work captures the inspired vision of that scene and seamlessly weaves the passion and drama of romantic opera with the refined fire and eloquence of Baroque oratorio.
